i’ve decided that i should reacquaint myself with the basics of electronics for starters. while prodding my electrical-engineer-father on the specific tools and equipment required for this, i inadvertently unearthed the rather curious story of my maternal grandfather (who died even before i was old to enough to have remembered meeting him).

apparently my grandfather (self-styled as “Tchaikovsky HOT”) had been a PUB Technician and electronics hobbyist who built most of the electrical appliances in the house by himself, including motion triggered toilet lights and a turntable. and that was back in the 60s and 70s. my mother said that she also recalled him building a big amplifier so he could play Wang Sa’s comedy vinyls on his homemade turntable at deafening volumes for everyone in the neighbourhood to hear.

i’ve been told that i dont need to understand why electricity works in order to be an electronics hobbyist, but being silly and inquisitive, I ended up starting at that point. lets see whether the internet will suffice to teach me everything!
